Formed in 1997, the band takes its name from the retro video game Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe. They have currently released two albums and a single on the Dream Catcher label and one on Chimerical records.
Brutal Deluxe quickly gained recognition for taking to the stage barefooted, bedecked in their tribalistic warpaint and pounding their audience into submission with their dynamic live performance. They were signed in 1999 to Dreamcatcher Records and released their debut album Divine Head in early 2000. It received wide critical acclaim and the band was hailed as a great British hope. The band toured throughout the UK and Europe in 2000 with Raging Speedhorn, Kill II This and Napalm Death.
The band started 2001 with a headline tour through the UK, culminating in a filmed live show for MTV2 in London. Just prior to this show the band suffered a serious blow when all their equipment was stolen. This brought to a head strained relationships in the band, and the end result was the departure of bassist, Toad.
A replacement was soon found in Maxximus and the band carried on with the help of Richmo custom drums and Marshall amplification. They performed to 12,000 people at the Bulldog Bash with The Wildhearts and Feeder and continued to tour through 2001. The band then recorded their second album in 2002, entitled Mistah Kurtz...He Dead.
The band toured in support of the "Mistah Kurtz .." album throughout 2003 but it soon became clear that their label Dream Catcher was going through some difficulties resulting in the album's non promotion. It was decided to move on and the relationship was severed. The band embarked on a hiatus.Chris travelled Europe and Jonny worked on a solo project "Prime H8".Maxximus joined the Bikini beach band and took to wearing a fez onstage !!
In 2007 the band showcased some new material on an EP and recruited a non fez wearing bass player; "Guary MacSeanlaoic." A crazed Irishman who erred on the correct side of sanity (just) .On the strength of the EP, the band signed to Chimerical Records.Work on a new album began with the demoing of over 30 new songs. These were whittled down to 20 and then between June and December 2009 the Slagfreak Mobile recording Studio was used to record at the remote Clymping Mill (Clymping Gap) on the English Southcoast.
The result was the album "Wall of Damage" released in August 2010.
